Troop 72 at Philmont 2016: Day 10
June 5-21, 2016, the Scouts of Troop72.com embarked on the greatest adventure in Scouting: PHILMONT!

Day 10 (7/17/16): Harlan to Cimarroncito (11.67 miles)

Day 10 (Sun, July 17, 2016) at Philmont: Harlan to Cimarroncito

Dominic let us sleep in until 5:00 a.m. today! But we still had to pack up by headlamp. We were on the trail by 5:45, a new record in speed of breaking camp.

We ate breakfast on the trail at a beautiful spot overlooking a valley with Tooth Ridge (and the Tooth of Time) visible in the distance. We'll be on top of that in two days!

We picked up our last food drop at Ute Gulch Commissary and enjoyed some fresh fruit and CHOCOLATE MILK!

It was great arriving at our campsite, Cimarroncito, by 10:30 a.m. to maximize our options. Dominic signed us up for the 12:45 rock-climbing slot, so we quickly set up our tents and ate our lunch before heading up to the rocks.

After climbing and rappelling, we took advantage of the "best showers in the back country" and also washed some clothes in sinks. Then it RAINED, which actually felt nice -- it was the first rain in two weeks.

When we finally sat down at 6:45 pm to boil water for our supper, we discovered that NEITHER stove worked. Fortunately, a nearby troop from Texas loaned us their stove.

We hit the sack early today at 9:30 pm, tired but CLEAN! It was a great night for sleeping with light rain falling. (Total distance: 11.67 miles at avg. pace of 28:31.)

Here are a some photos I took with my new Canon 70D camera.
